Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, winter on the shores of Lake Garda is mild, offering sunny days and incredible sunsets! The surrounding mountains are covered in snow, providing breathtaking views over the blue waters. The cities of Verona, Brescia, Trento, and Mantua are never boring. Winter is the less crowded season, allowing you to visit them almost exclusively!
In this article, we suggest some ideas for fully enjoying this season in the Garda area.
Discovering lakeside towns in the low season.
Both the towns along the shores of Lake Garda and its cities (Verona, Brescia, Trento, Mantua) enjoy a peaceful atmosphere in winter, far from the energetic hustle and bustle of summer. They offer the opportunity to be visited more intimately, for an unforgettable experience. Want some examples?
Go for a lovely walk from Limone sul Garda (BS) to its cycle path. You can enjoy it in complete relaxation, photographing every nook and cranny without waiting for the crowds to clear. You can park for free in the car park outside the town centre! Moreover, the western coast enjoys sunlight from the early hours of the morning, so those who like to get up at dawn can savour the whole day.
The same goes for Brenzone sul Garda (VR) with its cycle path leading to Navene di Malcesine. You can discover all the small villages of this scattered municipality by taking a long walk starting from Castelletto di Brenzone, passing through Magugnano and arriving at Assenza di Brenzone.
Another nice walk is along the cycle path between Lazise, Bardolino, and Garda (VR). In all three towns, you will also find plenty of shops and restaurants open even in the low season.
Finally, remember that, in addition to the big cities, the southern shore of Lake Garda is certainly the liveliest and full of shops, bars, and activities open even in winter. We recommend visiting Salò, Desenzano, and Sirmione.
Snow getaway.
What is winter without snow? The mountains around Garda offer the possibility of beautiful snow excursions suitable for everyone. You can discover all the sites of the Lessinia under a white blanket that makes everything more enchanting or snowshoe with the most breathtaking views that the lake and mountains can offer.
Fun indoor sports: go-karting and bowling.
To spend time with friends and family in total fun, why not organise a fun go-kart race? It can be a fun idea even for team building, stag and hen parties, birthdays, graduation parties, and any other occasion. You don’t have to be a driver, just want to get involved. For this adrenaline-pumping experience, you can go to: South Garda Karting in Lonato (BS), International Kart Indoor in Moniga (BS), Affi Kart Indoor in Affi (VR), Ala Karting in Ala (TN).
We also mention separately the Porsche Experience Center Franciacorta in Castrezzato (BS). A racetrack where you can experience the thrill of driving on a track, in addition to e-karts.
Finally, let’s not forget bowling! The fun begins as soon as you decide your name to be entered on the scoreboard, you don’t have to put your first name. So let’s have some laughs and self-irony! To challenge each other for the ultimate strike, you can go to: Bowling Leonessa in Brescia, Bowling Mantova in Borgo Virgilio (MN), Disco Bowling at the La Grande Mela shopping centre (VR), Bowling Verona in the Fiera area of Verona.
Total relaxation: the thermal baths of Lake Garda.
What better season to enjoy the beneficial effects of thermal water? Lake Garda is home to various thermal springs, both for curative and wellness purposes. They are all united by the beauty of the places where they are located, to which you can also add some walks to discover the territory.
Sunset catching.
Not everyone knows that the best time to admire fiery sunsets on Lake Garda is winter. The clear air reduces the haze and ignites the colours! Find our list of where to admire the most beautiful sunsets
