On Friday, 21 March 2025, the long-awaited inauguration of the new section of the Ciclovia del Garda (Lake Garda Cycle Path) took place, connecting Riva del Garda to the Sperone beach, in a southerly direction towards Limone sul Garda and its famous cycle-pedestrian path overhanging the lake (to which it will connect in the future).
An important milestone for cyclists and trekkers, with a scenic route that will provide unforgettable thrills!
One kilometre of pure magic between nature and engineering
The new section stretches for about one kilometre and offers a unique experience:
- Redeveloped historical tunnels and new tunnels carved into the rock, perfectly lit and safe.
- Breathtaking views of Lake Garda, including glimpses of crystal-clear water and sheer rock faces.
- A masterpiece of engineering, designed to blend harmoniously into the landscape.
- Direct connection to the entrance of the Sentiero del Ponale.
An adventure for everyone
Whether you are an experienced cyclist or a nature-loving walker, this section is suitable for everyone, with a safe and well-maintained route. And with the completion of the Ciclovia del Garda, it will be possible to cycle the entire lake on two wheels in the future!
If you are lucky like me, you might come across an expert rower who – often during the week – with his kayak and all the vocal power in the world, enchants the bay of Riva with various songs sung at the top of his voice. Whether because of the foothills, or because the air was still crisp and scented with snow, undoubtedly the most picturesque one heard was ‘Roma capoccia der mondo infameeeee’! (it is a song sung in Roman dialect).
All the passers-by stopped smiling to listen to him, and I still remember the intelligent statement of one boy, who said: ‘This is a free man’.
